Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919 in Cario, Georgia. He was the youngest out of five siblings. His siblings were Edgar, Frank, Mack, and his only sister Willa Mae. His parents farmed land as sharecroppers, but when his father left his mother had to do the work on her own. Which became hard for her to feed all of the mouths of the family since they were also in poverty. His mother packed up the family and took a train to California where it was supposed to be safer for African Americans than in Georgia. However, Jackie still had rules to follow like he could only use the city pool once a week, had to sit up higher at the theater, and more. Since the family was in poverty at a young age Jackie took up the job of mowing lawns for people. Jackie went to John Muir high school and then to Pasadena Junior college where he excelled in many sports. For example, Jackie was really athletic and was willing to take the time to make it far just like his older brother Mack did at the olympics for track. Jackie did track, basketball, football, and baseball. After Mack had took second place in the 200 meter dash Jackie’s goal was to go to the olympics and win a medal just like his brother, but was unable to when the olympics were cancelled due to World War two. In 1939, Jackie enrolled into the University of California and became the first four letter man. Later on in 1941 Jackie went to play semi-pro football with the Honolulu Bears. In 1942 he joined the army and later in 1943 he became second lieutenant. Jackie ended up marrying Rachel Isulm in February 10, 1945 and a year later had his first child Jackie Robinson Junior. On January 13, 1950 he had his first daughter Sharon and in 1952 David was born.
